Genesys 3100 Digital Flight Control System Now Available for Twin Commander Aircraft

The next-generation Genesys Aerosystems 3100 Digital Flight Control System (DFCS) is a fully featured, attitude-based autopilot that gives you a list of workload-reducing and safety-enhancing capabilities that were previously unavailable on aftermarket autopilots. The autopilot is now available for installation in Twin Commander aircraft.

Genesys Aerosystems, now a part of Moog Aircraft Controls, has obtained STC approval for installation of the 3100 DFCS into the Twin Commander line of aircraft covering turbine engine powered models 680T/V/W, 681, 690/A/B/C/D and lastly 695A’s as well as the piston engine powered models 500/A/B/S/U, 560A/E/F, 680E/F and 685’s.

The Genesys Aerosystems 3100 DFCS computer/control panel package retains the same dimensions as the previous 2100 DFCS unit and the 3100 DFCS does not require an external yaw sensor and any previously used yaw sensor is removed providing a weight savings for this aircraft modification.

If you currently have a 2100 DFCS autopilot, the flight controls servo units are removed and sent to Genesys for recalibration and mod status updates. For all other previous autopilot installations, the existing flight controls servos and mounts are removed and replaced with all new mounts and servos.

The 2.6 Lbs Genesys 3100 DFCS installed in the Turbo Commanders is a 3-Axis Digital Flight Control System, with standard Automatic Pitch Trim. Whether you have advanced glass EFIS displays or the traditional electromechanical gauges, the Genesys 3100 system supports a wide variety of cockpit setups.

An AHRS is part of the Genesys 3100 system and is utilized to drive the precise movements of the servos in aircraft lacking a digital EFIS display. For aircraft certified for flight into known icing (FIKI) the system requires dual air data units such as a Sandia SAC 7-35 ADC or Garmin GDC-74.

New Features

Straight and Level Recovery – Should you inadvertently enter into an unusual attitude situation, the S-TEC 3100’s Straight and Level button (LVL), delivers fast and simple automatic recovery to level flight from an unusual attitude no matter what the visibility. Once engaged, Straight and Level instantaneously overrides previous autopilot inputs to safely return and hold your aircraft at a neutral attitude while you get things sorted out.

Envelope Protection/Alerting – Loss of control is one of the largest contributors to general aviation accidents. The Genesys Aerosystems 3100 DFCS software helps minimize the chance of entering an inadvertent stall, unusual attitude, over-speeds or excessive banking situation caused by aggressive autopilot inputs.

For example, should your aircraft approach a stall while the Genesys 3100 is engaged, the system will automatically alter the maximum pitch angle necessary to quickly return the aircraft to a safe speed. In addition, visual and aural annunciations will alert you to the situation.

Additional Features of the S-TEC 3100 Digital Flight Control System:

  • Flight Director
  • Lateral and Vertical navigation functions including:
    • LPV, HDG, GPSS, VOR, LOC, GS, ALT, GPS LNAV, GPS VNAV
